Beauty of Prayers

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 3:27 AM
Dear brothers and sisters,

Before ending the year of 2010, let's reflect of what God had taken place in every single event in our life and how many times did we come before Him just to pray before Him? Accumulating the duration, and it might just be a total of the duration you've taken for prayers such as meal prayers, morning prayers, sleeping prayers, sunday service prayers, prayer meeting prayers, cg prayers and etc. We could had spent only 1 hour out of 24 hours ( or maybe less than that ), to pray silently and wait patiently for His reply.

Til these days, had you forgotten the beauty of prayers that He once had put into the fragile heart of yours?

Goin bac soon....

Shalom Bro n Sis,
Just a few more weeks n most of us will go bac to UTM to start the new semester....However, there are a group of us who will be going bac this coming wed 30/6 and onwards for the approaching work of juniors in UTM.

Before this, our kch IVCCians had done our approching work in the uni juniors meeting. Thank God for all of those who had joined the approaching work. They are willing to sacrifice their precious time to serve God. However, many of the juniors this year are more lucky as they had parents, siblings or relatives to fetch them to UTM. Therefore, we did not manage to approach much juniors in kch. Hopefully when we go bac to UTM, we will be able to approach more juniors. We really need your prayers for the approaching work and also for the preparation work. Pray that God will grant us wisdom to approach them n enable us to invite enough juniors for the welcoming nite n camp and also prepare all IVCCians for the welcoming activity n follow up work.

Also pray for the preparation for the sketch, the choosing of theme song, icebreaking activities, the slide show, the welcoming camp and finance of the welcoming activities. There are so many things to pray for n to seek God's guidance on.

All in all, With God, NOTHING IS IMPOSIBBLE. But we need to seek God and walk with Him to know His will and guidance. Therefore bro and sis, please seek God wholeheartedly so that when we are serving Him, we will be doing it lovingly and joyfully by God's strength and love.
See u guys soon in IVCC....continue to pray for us....God BLESS U ALL!!!

Ganbatte For Approaching work!!!!

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 9:26 AM
Shalom Bro and Sis, the result for uni intake is out this week, so take this opportunity to approach juniors and invite them to our welcoming activity. For Kch IVCCians, please be present at the teochew association this sat afternoon 19/6 and also kenyalang hall this sun afternoon 20/6 to approach juniors during the entering uni seminars. Try to approach juniors at these kinds of seminars, or approach your relatives or churchmates who are goin to enter UTM.

Once the result is out, you can also start to post messages on facebook, msn or frenster asking whether there are any juniors who are entering into UTM and need any help abt entering uni or transportation to UTM. Example: “For those who are entering into UTM, if you need any help on transportation or have any questions abt preparation into entering uni, can contact me….. “

Please read the strategy in approaching juniors below….rmbr that we are working for God and not for man, so do it with a willingful, compassionate heart and with perseverance and courage. Be reminded that you are bringing hope to the juniors, especially the non-believers, so do it by remembering how God has pour out His love for u and now u r pouring out that love to others. Pray to God before you do any approaching work so that God will guide your every step in approaching juniors.

Strategy in approaching juniors:
A.During Seminars for entering Universties
ü Basically, brother and sister can grab this opportunity in approaching and get to know more juniors who will enter UTM
ü First, you can introduce yourself, which course you are studying in UTM, ( just like normal communication with them), be friendly with them.
ü Then , u can ask about their selected university, course n which kolej they stay, normally, they will be blur about how is the university they enter will be.
ü At this moment, bro and sis can give them our booklets & calendar If they r from UTM , you can explain to them there are some useful information they might need to take note when they are in Universities.
ü May be they will be quite curious about this kind of things, you can tell them friendly that we are from IVCC, INTER-VARSITY CHRISTIAN CENTER, if they need some help during MHS, we can help them .
ü If some of the juniors show interested about it, you can give them our welcoming activities flyers, can explain to them about the activities of welcoming night as well as welcoming camp.
ü Next, bro and sis can ask & jot down the details of juniors:
· Name
· Contact no
· Date & time for registration
· Kolej they are staying
· Email & facebook add
· religion

Ø For juniors reach UTM earlier and need fetching :
· Date & time reach airport(those take flight to UTM)
· Transportation

ü Then, bro and sis can inform us by sending email or facebook to Teck Chee and Shirley.
Teck Chee: chee1988@hotmail.com
012-7757903

Shirley: shirleylai58@yahoo.com
017-7306239

B. During MHS:
ü Basically, bro and sis will be distribute to approach the juniors in each kolej
ü The distribution is based on the kolej , bro and sis familarise with as this may save the time and energy of seniors in approaching juniors ,since they know d strategic place in approaching juniors.
ü Then, we may get the car sticker to ease our approaching job.
ü Basically, the seniors can approach juniors when they are waiting for registration, or even their parents(the most important thing is don’t be shy to communicate with them)
ü Seniors can introduce yourself , your course, (maybe some of juniors are your course juniors too), then can give them our calendar & booklet as well as brief about some information of the booklet.
ü After their registration, seniors can help them to carry luggages if some of them unable to carry the heavy luggage to their respective hostels. Seniors can also help to clean up their rooms if necessary.
ü Through the conversation with the juniors, bro & sis can get to know their religion, if for non- Christian, bro & sis can also pass them our welcoming brochure, encourage them to join, since they won’t be so busy during that welcoming night . Seniors can brief about our welcoming night & camp programmes. For Christian, bro & sis sure invite them to join and can introduce our IVCC to them if they want to find a church for their service and worship.
ü Bro & sis also can ask juniors whether want help them to buy them lunch or not(dabao)
Or buy necessary things.
ü Bro & sis are required to jot down your approaching juniors details:
· Name
· Contact no
· Kolej & block
ü These details may be important for the follow up task .

The strategies above are the reference for bro & sis, hope that our approaching job can be done smoothly, God Bless^^
Continue to pray for yourselves and also the welcoming activity. Prepare yourself for the approaching work. God is always before us and we will not be shaken. Amen!!

ARE YOU THE TRUE LIGHT AND SALT OF THE WORLD?

Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 9:50 AM
Shalom, brothers and sisters in Christ. This is a meaningful article by Rev. Liew which sis. Xiao Xu would like to share with all of you. Please spend some time to read the article and pray about some of the prayer items below.

After reading the article, what kind of Christian do you think you are based on the article? Are you a Christian who is acting, pretending or forced to be light and salt to the world or are you the real LIGHT and SALT which does not lose its saltiness and shine?

Matthew 5:13–16: "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its flavour be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."
Bro. and sis, especially all of us who are going to be involved in the welcoming activities 2010, please pray to God that you will become changed from the inner out and be the real light and salt to the world. And how do you do that? IMMERSE yourself in God’s word, BUILD a relationship with Him, LOVE Himk, PRAY to Him, LISTEN and DEPEND on Him….

We also hope that brothers n sisters can contribute some ice breaking ideas for the emcees Sung Ching and Xiao Yang for the welcoming nite as they are busy cracking their heads thinking of group ice breaking ideas. You can also contribute some ideas to Jimmy, the scriptwriter for the welcoming nite sketch. Pray also that God will grant wisdom and creativity to all of them so that every ideas n script will be according to the theme HD life and His will.

4. Sub-topic Speaker for welcoming camp.

We are still looking for a sub-topic speaker talking about “achievement” for the welcoming camp in august. Thus, bro and sis, please pray that we will be able to find a godly speaker that is suitable for the title and for the audience and will speak according to God’s words. FYI, our speaker for welcoming nite is bro. Sern Wang. He is also the speaker for the main topic HD life in the welcoming camp. May all of us also pray for him ya.

tHe Onion

Friday, April 23, 2010 at 9:56 PM

I was an onion before Christ set me free;
Layers upon layers of iniquity.
An ugly old onion whose fragrance was strong;

That my Jesus bought and loved all along.

Unknown to me what He was going to do;
Of what He was planning, I had not a clue.

Pulling each layer off one by one,
In order to make me more like Jesus the Son.

The first layer, wasn't so bad,
I saw all the sins that I knew I had.
They were easy to fix, just change the way I talk,

And learn more of how He wanted me to walk.

Reading His Word, and learning again;
How to put aside my life of sin.
But the next layer was pulled which hurt more,

He was getting closer to the core.

Unknown what He would find there,
I simply gave it to Him in prayer.
As another layer was removed, He started to cry;

Pulling this layer brought pain to my Father on High.

And I was crying over the sadness I felt;
The brokenness and all of the guilt.

Past memories that I thought were gone;

But they were buried under layers disguised in a fragrance so strong.

As onions are peeled more and more,
They put tears in our eyes as we get close to the core;

So my Father wept over my pain;
Giving me a balm of comfort and strength to sustain.

"NO MORE LAYERS!" I would scream,
As He continued to peel each layer off of me.

"I'll have nothing left, my Lord, what will I do?

I'll be nothing but a worthless core to You."

But He simply said "Trust Me," continuing to peel,
I believed He was blinded to my pain that was so real.

Year after year I shrunk more and more;
Until all that was left of this onion was a core.

It was then that I began to understand;
As the Lord embraced me in His loving hand.

He said, "Now, and only now, can you be;

The creation that will minister before Me.

"Clothed with the righteousness, only from above;
one are your layers of, self, so you can be filled with My love."
He look my layers of sin, hurt and pain
And clothed me with love, truth and mercy in His name.

Yes, we are all onions, learning with each day
How to overcome as each layer is taken away.
Some layers tear and pull at our heart;

While others grieve us to our innermost part.

But we are nothing but an ugly onion without Christ.
Layers upon layers of pride, sin and strife.
Only God can take those layers away.
And clothe us with His righteousness in that Final Day.

Being Alone with God

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2:14 AM

Why is it so important that you are with God and God alone on the mountain top?
It's important because it's the place in which you can listen to the voice of the One who calls you the beloved.
To pray is to listen to the One who calls you "my beloved daughter," "my beloved son," "my beloved child."
To pray is to let that voice speak to the centre of your being, to your guts, and let that voice resound in your whole being.
(Henri Nouwen)

We will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever.

Owner of Your Car

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 11:24 PM

By Eugene Seah, Singapore

In the mayhem, I busy myself
Daily and constant

In the mayhem, I lose You God
Repeatedly in folly

Still in my stubbornness, I persevere
Like a car that just won’t park

Always I toil and labor
Though You’ve said, “My yoke is easy and My burden is light”

Always I wonder if it’s time to let go and let God;
And always I ponder if it’s giving up too early
Though You’ve said, “Seek and you will find”

Still in my confusion I frenzy
Like a drunkard-driven car skidding on thin ice

Lord help me park the car
In Your peace offered for free
Lord help me brake the skidding car
And drive me back to You today

Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you,
because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest
for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden
I give you is light” (Matthew 11:29-30).

“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for.
Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” (Luke 11:9)

Spiritual Friends [Dr. Alex Tang]

Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 9:02 PM

Spiritual friendship, according to the great twelfth century English Cistercian Abbot, Aelred of Rievaulx is “mutual harmony in affairs human and divine coupled with benevolence and charity” (Aelred,Spiritual Friendship,Kalamazoo, MI: Cistercian Publications). What he meant is that spiritual friendship is thelove of the Christians given by God that combines goodwill and charity and is only possible between those who resist sin and seek to follow Jesus. There are certain characteristics that make up spiritual friendship.

Firstly spiritual friendship has‘sacred space’ that allows each of us to grow in our relationship with the Lord, with other people and with ourselves. The ‘sacred space’ is a safe space where we are free to make mistakes. It is also a space where we are to be non judgmental about each other. Therefore this ‘sacral space’ allows us to be ourselves, without the burden of putting on our false selves and trying to be someone else. In spiritual friendship there is anunderstanding of ‘agreeing to disagree’. This meant that it is possible to hold differing opinions about politics, theology, lifestyle preferences, and cultural heritage without the need to prove ourselves right or to tear down the other person’s opinion. In many subtle ways, this will enrich our lives.

Secondly, spiritual friendship is a relationship with trust. This trust is about spiritual friendsrespecting each other’s confidentiality and privacy. It is in our psychological makeup that we need people we can trust so that we can open ourselves. This opening of ourselves is cathartic and results in our emotional well being. We need to be able to be free to verbalise our fears and desires. Confession is an important part of the process of repentance. Confession helps us to avoid the temptation of sidestepping our moral responsibilities. We cannot do all this if we do not trust our spiritual friends with our confidentiality.

Thirdly, spiritual friendship involves accountability. Spiritual friends are accountable to each other because they are brothers (and sisters) in Christ. Much of the problems of the world are the results of lack of accountability. Many Christian leaders fail because they do not allow themselves to be accountable to other Christians. Christian spiritual friends hold each other accountable in their spiritual life, thought fantasies, marital fidelity, fulfilling of promises, and management of finances. We need these check and balances because we are prone to self deception. The bible teaches that our hearts are very deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9).

Finally, spiritual friends makevery good prayer partners. There is a certain joy in praying together with someone we know and loves. Praying together reminds us of ourdependence on the Lord. One of the highlight of my working week is the weekly lunch-time prayer with a spiritual friend. Spiritual friends are able todiscern the working of the Holy Spirit in the life of one another other and to offer spiritual direction. This is especially useful when major decisions need to be made.

How do we seek spiritual friends? We start by becoming friends with others. Gradually we will come to be aware that certain people may become our good spiritual friends. We are comfortable with these people because they offer us ‘sacred spaces.’ We know that we can trust them to keep our confidence (not a gossip), are willing to be accountable to each other, and willing to pray together with us. The friendship of David and Jonathan is one such example (Isaiah 18:1-4). In my spiritual journey I am grateful for the friendships of many spiritual friends who live in many countries all over the world. I thank God for all of them. When you have a spiritual friend, hang on to them because they are very precious and very rare. You may even have to travel thousands of miles for them.

What does the Bible say about managing your finances?

Friday, February 5, 2010 at 9:33 PM
The Bible has a lot to say about managing finances. Concerning borrowing, the Bible generally advises against it. See Proverbs 6:1-5; 20:16; 22:7, 26-27 (“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.... Do not be a man who strikes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts; if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you”). Over and over again, the Bible warns against the accumulation of wealth and encourages us to seek spiritual riches instead. Proverbs 28:20: “A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.” See also Proverbs 10:15; 11:4; 18:11; 23:5.Proverbs 6:6-11 offers wisdom concerning laziness and the financial ruin that inevitably results. We are told to consider the industrious ant who works to store up food for itself. The passage also warns against sleeping when we should be working at something profitable. A “sluggard” is a lazy, slothful person who would rather rest than work. His end is assured—poverty and want. At the other end of the spectrum is the one who is obsessed with gaining money. Such a one, according to Ecclesiastes 5:10, never has enough wealth to satisfy him and must be constantly grasping more and more. First Timothy 6:6-11 also warns against the trap of desiring wealth.Rather than desiring to heap riches upon ourselves, the biblical model is one of giving, not getting. “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). We are also encouraged to be good stewards of what God has given us. In Luke 16:1-13, Jesus told the parable of the dishonest steward as a way of warning us against poor stewardship. The moral of the story is “So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?” (v. 11). We are also responsible to provide for our own household, as 1 Timothy 5:8 reminds us: “If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”In summary, what does the Bible say about managing money? The answer can be summarized with a single word—wisdom. We are to be wise with our money. We are to save money, but not hoard it. We are to spend money, but with discretion and control. We are to give back to the Lord, joyfully and sacrificially. We are to use our money to help others, but with discernment and the guidance of God’s Spirit. It is not wrong to be rich, but it is wrong to love money. It is not wrong to be poor, but it is wrong to waste money on trivial things. The Bible’s consistent message on managing money is to be wise.

Saviour Please

at 3:41 PM

A song I baru heard in Joy FM (online de~) a week ago....
A meaningful song... A good prayer and reminder for all of us~~~

Savior, please take my hand.

I work so hard, I live so fast.
This life begins, and then it ends.
And I do the best that I can, but I don't know how long I'll last...

I try to be so tough.
But I'm just not strong enough.
I can't do this alone, God I need You to hold on to me..
I try to be good enough.
But I'm nothing without Your love!!!
Saviour, please...
Keep saving me~~~

Savior, please...
Help me stand.
I fall so hard, I fade so fast..
Will You begin, right where I end?
And be the God of all I am because You're all that I have...?

Hallelujah
Everything You are to me.
Is everything I'll ever need.
And I am learning to believe.
That I don't have to prove a thing.
'Cause You're the one who's saving me.

Last two days..encountered this verse...Felt a stab in my heart... Felt that God is terribly angry at me, and this verse is like a straight forward scolding from Him..I have been very bad lately...being lazy, procrastinate, reluctance, self-pity, and many more...Sinning too much... Still remember what Cikgu had said about me last month.. "Lazy la this gurl...Even to think also lazy..!!" Aiii... ABBA~~~
Still feel the sting now.. Praying hard that God will save me from swerving away... In so, I need to serve Him well...Doing the best that I can to please Him without complaining unnecessarily...
"But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
Joshua 24:15

Worry~~:[

Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 12:23 PM

Worrying so much bout everything recently...
Bout my thesis, LI, Control, relationship with family and friends, Welcoming, English CG...etc..:[
I guess we as human being never gonna stop worrying bout anything..
Though I know I shouldn't. We are His child, He is in control..why worry???
But I can't help myself..
Keep on reminding myself...so many times..even my laptop's password is 'Have Faith Nono'~
Thus, I've frequently being in quiet moment.. Talking with God while others are talking...
I don't mind that they scold me of being absent-minded... Cuz all I needed the most is my ABBA, Father~ an assurance, a warm embrace of comfort that He's very near~~

Found this somewhere... A prayer we all should recite when our faith is shaken...

MY LORD GOD, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following Your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this You will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust You always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for You are ever with me, and You will never leave me to face my perils alone.
[Thomas Merton]

I guess worrying is somehow good if it lead you back to our Almighty God. To be dependent in Him, to cling to Him, though there are gazillions of uncertainties in front.
Have faith my dear brothers and sisters, that He will do everything to perfection according to His plans and purposes.. No matter how terrible it may seems to us~^^

Into the night...

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 2:17 PM

Keep watch, dear Lord,

with those who work or watch or weep this night,

and give your angels charge over those who sleep.

Tend the sick, Lord Christ,

give rest to the weary,

bless the dying,

soothe the suffering,

pity the afflicted,

shield the joyous

- and all for your love's sake.

Amen

[Augustine, Book of Common Prayer]

I am placing my soul and my body

in Thy safe keeping this night,

O God,

in Thy safe keeping, O Jesus Christ,

in Thy safe keeping, O Spirit of perfect truth.

The Three who would defend my cause

by keeping me this night from harm.
